The Federal Government and striking health workers under the
auspices of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) are meeting today, a move
that is part of the efforts to call off the ongoing strike action by the
workers.
It was gathered that the Minister of Labour had insisted after
the meeting with JOHESU on Tuesday that the union get back to government by
today with the position of their members, inorder to pave way for a final
resolution of the industrial crisis.
Some of the demands of JOHESU are:
· 1. Adjustment of CONHESS salary as done for CONMESS since January
2014
· 2.Abolition of scale to scale promotion
· 3. Payment of outstanding arrears of promotion, skipping and
relativity
· 4.Autonomy for Teaching and Specialist Hospitals in the country
and other issues
· 5. Implementation of all court judgements
· 6. Review of retirement age from 60 to 65 years as done for the
tertiary education sector.
The union had declared what it called “Operation Alligator
Bite”, asking its members across the country to proceed on an indefinite and
total strike action from Wednesday, September 20, 2017 if government fails to
meet its demand.
