Hundreds of suspected rice smugglers attacked Ogun Custom operatives

The Nigeria Customs Service says suspected Rice smugglers have allegedly attacked its operatives at the Yewa area of Ogun State.
The State Controller of Customs, Sani Madugu, who made this known while briefing newsmen at Idiroko, said the attackers numbering hundreds on their bikes attacked his men with different dangerous weapons, such as cutlasses and machetes.
Madugu said the incident took place at Olorunda village, near Ilase, while one of the Hilux patrol vans of the State Customs Command was damaged beyond repairs by the suspected smugglers.
He added that Rice smugglers in the State have resulted to the use of Motorcycle, popularly called Okada, to smuggle Rice from Benin Republic to Nigeria, through road path, after a successful clamp down on them by his men.
The Custom boss said three of the suspects involved in the attack were arrested by his operatives.
He advised smugglers in the State to look for an alternative means of livelihood.
