The Nigeria
Customs Service has made a seizure of items with total duty paid value of
N44,199,000 in the last one week in Ogun State.
The State
Controller of Customs, Sani Madugu who made this known while briefing newsmen,
at the State Command headquarters in Abeokuta, said the seized items include, a
Toyota Highlander 2013 model, with duty paid value of N12.2 million, 2007 model
of Lexus ES 350 Salon car, with duty paid value of N8.1 million, Suzuki mini
bus, with duty paid value of 810,000 and Ford focus station wagon, with duty
paid value of N1.2 million.
Madugu
listed others as Toyota Camry 2012 model, with duty paid value of N5.4 million,
Toyota Corolla with duty paid value of N4.05 million, Toyota Camry with duty
paid value of N3.4 million and Scania Container truck containing a mini bus, 50
bags of rice, as well as eight bales of second hand clothing with duty paid
value of N5.2 million.
He added
that the State Command under his leadership is re-engineering his officers and
men towards more proactive fight against smuggling and enforcement of import
laws.
The Custom boss
said the Command operatives are continuously on 24 hours shift duty.
He added
that his Command will continue to partner members of the public in carrying out
its duties, while he urged them to always give the Service necessary
information to tackle smuggling in the State.
He said “We
are calling on indigenes and non-indigenes of Ogun State resident in the State,
to come up with information. We will use this information with new approach,
tactics and strategies to fight smuggling”.
Madugu said
35 seizures, including 29 vehicles, 7 motorcycles and 24 other goods, with
total duty paid value of N377, 255,818 were made by his Command last month.
He added that 38 seizures, which include 24
vehicles, 19 motorcycles and 34 other goods, with duty paid value of
N87,160,224 were made by his Command, last September.
