Super Eagles defender,
Shehu Abdullahi, made an emotional end of stay with Cypriot side, Anorthosis
Famagusta as he was in tears while getting a standing ovation and farewell from
both the fans and officials at the end of the their League clash against Ethinakos
Achnas yesterday.
It was Abdullahi’s
last outing for the modest side before finally moving to Bursaspor of Turkey,
Abdullahi who was
handed the captain’s hand band in the game as a mark of respect for his
exemplary service to the club, converted a penalty in the 59th minute to help
them to a 3-1 win, while he was surrounded by his teammates after the game, as
they bid him farewell with deep hugs.
He also got standing
ovation from fans at the Stadio Antonis Papadopoulos.
24-year-old Abdullahi
who can also play as a defensive midfielder is expected to pen a contract with
Bursaspor tomorrow, where he will link up with two of his international
teammates, Willian Troost-Ekong and Mikel Agu.
The former Kano
Pillars player who joined Anorthosis from Portuguese club, Uniao da Madeira in
2016, made 48 appearances for the club scoring three goals.
On the international scene,
he was part of Nigeria’s home-based team that came third at the African Nations
Championship in South Africa 2016 and the U-23 Eagles side that won bronze
medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
