Three suspects in Police net in Ogun for hijacking truck loaded with N2.024m worth of rice

Three suspects are now in Police net in Ogun state for allegedly robbing and hijacking a truck loaded with 203 bags of rice in ijebu ode area of the state.

Spokesman of the state Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi who made this known said the suspects, Animasaun Lekan, Omotayo Sogo and Olayemi kehinde were arrested last Tuesday, 9th of January following a complaint by one Izah Ekene of no 6 Mabogunde Street, Oju Ore Ota.

Oyeyemi said Ekene reported at Igbeba Division of the state Command, that he hired a truck to convey 203 bags of rice valued at N2.024 million to kwale in Delta state, while on getting to Ijebu ode, the truck driver and Lekan Animasaun allegedly brought out a gun, pointed it at him, pushed him out of the truck and diverted the rice to an unknown destination.

He added that according to Ekene’s report the suspects equally took away his bag containing the sum of N50000 and an ATM card.

The Spokesman said Lekan Animasaun and Sogo Omotayo were first apprehended, while this led to the arrest of the alleged receiver of the stolen rice, Olayemi kehinde and the recovery of the truck.

He added that also recovered from the suspects were a bag containing the victim’s ATM card, a sum of N19000 and a toy gun with which they allegedly robbed their victim.

The state Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu according to him has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Federal Anti robbery squad for further investigation and possible prosecution.
