FRSC disagrees with TRACE, says 7 and not 18 die in Ogun fatal crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday debunked the report by the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps that 18 people lost their lives in a fatal accident at Alapako area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The Public Education Officer of the state sector command of the FRSC, Florence Okpe in a statement said only seven people died in the auto crash.
Okpe said three males adult, three female adult and one child lost their lives in the crash, while 12 others sustained various degrees of injuries.
She added that the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue of the FOS Hospital, in Ishara, while the injured victims were taken to Idera Hospital at Sagamu by the men of the FRSC.
Okpe said the crash was as a result of suspected tyre burst and speeding, while the state Sector Commander of FRSC, Clement Oladele has led a team of FRSC operatives to Idera Hospital for a Hospital follow up visit in accordance with the World Health Organisation (WHO) thirty-day rule.
According to Okpe the follow up visit revealed that nine of the victims taken to Idera hospital are currently responding to treatment and one Titilayo Eboluwa has been discharged.
The Public Education Officer said that preliminary investigation by FRSC accident investigation team shows that the burst tyre of the commercial bus involved in the accident had expired and the bus did not have the speed limiting device at the time of the crash.
She added that there was no record of drivers’ license and passengers manifest in the commercial bus.
According to her the accident involved a Ford Explorer Jeep marked KJA-278-DS and Mazda E2200 bus marked BDG-873-XU.
Spokesman of TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, had on Sunday confirmed to Newsworldpremium that the accident involved an Xtera Jeep marked KJA-278-DS, a Ford and a bus marked GGE-873-XU, with all the 18 passengers in the bus losing their lives, while the driver of the Jeep and its only occupant survived the accident with various degrees of injuries.
