Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri
has won silver in the men’s table tennis singles event at the Gold Coast 2018
Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Quadri lost 4-2 to
Ning Gao from Singapore in the final on Sunday morning, as he had a slow start
to the final, losing his first two sets 11-7, 11-8 but bounced back to level
2-2 after four sets.
He won the third and
fourth sets 11-3, 11-5, while he was however unlucky to lose the fifth set 11-9
before succum
bing to another loss in the sixth set 11-5.
Quadri defeated
Sharath Achanta from India in four sets in the semi-finals, to reach the final.
He also beat Harmeet Desai
4-0 from India in the quarter-finals after he had outclassed Xue Jie Pang from
Singapore 4-1 in the men’s singles round of 16.
