Arowolo wins as Abeokuta Golf club dominates 3rd OBJ Open Golf tourney

Samson Arowolo of Abeokuta Golf Club has emerged as the champion of the 3rd edition of the Obasanjo Open Golf Championship for both professional and amateur golfers in Nigeria.

Arowolo who won with75 gross was closely followed by team-mates, Dotun Ajobiewe who recorded 78 gross and Afeez Odejayi with 80 gross to ensure host, Abeokuta Golf Club made it a clean sweep of the tournament's three top prizes.

Warrant Officer, Fatimah Usman of the Tigers Golf Club, Odogbo, Ibadan clinched the female category top spot with 79nets, while Sade Opawunmi of the Abeokuta Golf Club emerged second.

Dr.Lemboye Okunboye won the veteran category of the tournament with 80nets, closely followed by Chief Bode Mustapha with 81 nets.

Prince Segun Onabolu emerged winner of the super veteran category.

Top golfers from Abeokuta Golf Club, Ibadan Golf Club, Tigers Golf Club, Ewekoro Golf Club, Sagamu Golf Club, Dolphin Golf Club and Ogbomoso Golf Club, as well as two golfers from Benin-Republic competed for prizes at the tournament organised in honour of Nigeria former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo while speaking at the tournament described golf as a game for gentlemen and lauded the organizers for the successful hosting of the tournament.  

He tasked captains of various clubs to work hard on him to give-up his favourite game, Squash for golf.

The Abeokuta Golf Club's Captain, Adewale Adeogun called for the support of the former president, as well as that of the corporate sponsors in taking the tournament to international level, while he appreciated the commitment of the club's planning committee led by its board of trustees' chairman, Justice Ademola Bakre for the success of the tournament.
