Hoffnung's Memorial Table Tennis Championship, starts in Ogun State

The 1st late Mrs Anthonia Bolanle Akiode Memorial Cadet and Junior Closed Table Tennis Championship, has commenced at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Briefing newsmen, ahead of the commencement of the Championship, founder of Hoffnung Foundation, the organisers of the Championship, Adedapo Akiode, said the competition is organised to give platform for discovered talents in the State, to compete and showcase their talents.
Akiode, a former African Junior Table Tennis Champion, said the competition is also organised as a remembrance for his late mother, who supported him while she was alive.
He added that rewards for whoever emerge winner at the 3-day competition include getting sponsors, as well Sport equipments.
He said "there are plans and rewards for the winners, such as getting Sport equipments, Sponsors, as well as certificate and plaque, among other things".
Akiode who plays professional Tennis in Germany, said a total of 80 players, from all the 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs in the State are participating in the first category of the competition, which is for Under 14 & 18 boys and girls.
He added that the second category is for the Hoffnung's Schools' programme for Secondary School students and a total of 30 players are competing in this category.
The competition started on Tuesday(today) and will end on Thursday, 19th October, 2017.
Dignitaries at the briefing include the Director of Sports, Ogun State Sport Council, Mr Adesola Faleti, Chairman of the Ogun State Sport Writers' Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde, Co-ordinator of Hoffnung Foundation, Mrs Ikepo Adebayo and the Head Coach of Table Tennis in the State, Mrs Riskat Eromosele.
