Ogun Customs seized items with duty paid value of N62.7 million during Christmas

The Ogun state Command of the Nigeria Customs service says it seized items with duty paid value of N62,693,000, during the Christmas period.
The state controller of Customs, Sani Madugu who made this known to newsmen in Abeokuta, said the seized items include 14 smuggled vehicles with duty paid value of N43,402,500 and nine means of conveyance of smuggled goods with duty paid value of N6,817,500.
Madugu said 391 bags of smuggled rice with duty paid value of N4,301,000 were also seized during the Christmas period.
He listed other seized items as used clothes, used fridges, used electronics and shoes, with duty paid value of N8,172,000.
He added that his command is also collaborating with the Ogun state government to ensure the success of the recently launched Ofada rice by the state government.
He said: "Collaboration with Ogun state Government to ensure success in the recently launched large scale farming of Ofada rice by his Excellency, the Governor of Ogun state, will be sustained and enforced to the fullest."
The Custom boss said his officers and men have been properly briefed about the Ofada rice, so as to ensure the facilitation and support of the government towards the promotion of local rice production.
