Rwanda join Nigeria at the top

Rwanda earned their first win of the 2018 African Nations Championship after beating Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in a Group C match at the Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangier on
Friday.

It was not the most entertaining first half with neither country very threatening in the final third and consequently chances on goal were at a bare minimum.
This saw the opening half ending goalless.
The second half saw Rwanda taking a strangle hold on the game, but despite their dominance their finishing continued to be woeful.
Nonetheless, Rwanda persisted and opened the scoring in the 67th minute when centre-back Thierry Manzi headed home a corner-kick to give them the lead.
This woke up the Equatorial Guinea attack and they began to push forward in search of the equaliser, but the Rwandan keeper Eric Ndayishimiye was in fine form and made numerous good saves to keep his side in front.
In the end Rwanda held on for a slender 1-0 win which sees them joint leaders of Group C with four points from two games.
Nigeria are also on four points following their opening Group C draw against Rwanda and a 1-0 win over Libya earlier on Friday night.
Libya are third in Group C with three points from their opening-day victory over Equatorial Guinea while the latter are last with zero points.
