Governor Rochas
Okorocha of Imo State yesterday said he will endorse the candidature of his
son-in-law, Uche Nwosu as his successor in 2019 if he decides to contest.
Nwosu who is currently
Okorocha’s chief of staff is married to the governor’s daughter Ulomma.
The Chief Press
Secretary to the Governor, San Onwuemeodo, in a statement yesterday said
Okorocha made the commitment to support his son-in-law when leaders of the All
Progressive Congress (APC) from Owerri Municipal Council visited him and urged
him to encourage his in-law to vie for the Governorship.
Okorocha was said to
have used the opportunity to eulogize his in-law, saying Nwosu is the man to
beat and that zoning should not be an impediment.
He said, “Uche Nwosu
is hardworking and never gets tired. He is a very humble young man. Not proud.
Not arrogant. So, power won’t enter his head”
“I have checked him in
and out; I have not found him wanting. What the state wants is Imo governor and
not Owerri Zone or Orlu Zone or Okigwe Zone governor. Zoning does not put food on
the table of anybody.”
However, there were
increased oppositions to Okorocha’s plan to have Nwosu as Imo governor in 2019.
Nwosu is from the same
senatorial district with Okorocha and other zones in the state had been
clamouring for power shift.
