A suspected kidnapper has been shot dead by the Police in Ogun
state.
Spokesman of the state Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who
made this known said luck, ran against the suspect, who is a member of an
alleged kidnap syndicate terrorizing Ilaro and its environs in the early hour
of yesterday, when he was shot dead by men of Federal Special Anti-Robbery
Squad (FSARS) led by the officer in-charge, in the state Police Command, Uba
Adam.
Oyeyemi said the gang had earlier allegedly kidnapped one Sanni
Dan Nasarawa and took him to a thick forest where they tied him down for seven
days waiting for his people to pay ransom.
He added the rope they used to tie the victim later got loose
while his abductors were fast asleep, leading to his escape last Thursday.
The spokesman said Sanni then ran to FSARS office in Abeokuta,
the state capital where he reported to the Police.
He added that the FSARS operatives combed the forest from 6pm on
Thursday up till about 4:00am on Friday (yesterday), before they came across
the gang who engaged them in serious gun battle which lasted for almost an
hour.
Oyeyemi said that at the end of the encounter, one of the
suspects was gunned down while others numbering about seven escaped with
various degree of gunshot injuries.
He added that one AK47 riffle loaded with 15rounds of ammunition
was recovered from the dead suspect.
