2018 ITTF World Team Championships: Nigeria marches on as Egypt slumps

Nigeria Table Tennis team continued their march to the Championship Division at the 2018 ITTF World Team Championships holding in Halmstad, Sweden while Egypt suffered their second group defeat of the competition.
Having won their first group match against Turkey convincingly, Nigeria was made to work harder on Monday (April 30) against Argentina.
With Segun Toriola narrowly losing the first game to Horacio Cifuentes, it was Aruna Quadri and Olajide Omo
tayo that salvage the needed the victory for Nigeria after overcoming Cifuentes, ALTO Gaston and GALVANO Nicolas to give Nigeria a 3-1 win over the South American.


Nigeria is topping its Group with Slovakia and will face the Slovak team on Tuesday May 1 at the Halmstad Arena.
After putting up a good performance against Germany in their 2-3 loss to the European champion in their first group match, Egypt was on the losing side again on Monday (April 30) as the African champion fell 3-1 to Slovenia in the men’s event.
The Egyptians who are making their debut in the championships division will battle Hong Kong with the hope of maintaining their status in the elite division of the tournament.  
For the Egyptian women team they have been on the losing end since the competition started losing 3-0 to Hungary, Japan and United States in all their matches.
The female team, led by Dina Meshref-led team will face Ukraine on Tuesday May 1 with the hope to fighting to remain in the championships division.
Meshref had said from the start of the competition that their aim was to fight to remain in the championship division.
