Benni McCarthy says it has proven a frustrating maiden season in charge of Cape Town City and feels his side might have finished much higher in the Absa Premiership standings had they taken their chances.
City sit in fifth place after Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Orlando Pirates but the City coach feels it could have been higher.
“I know the capability of the payers and there has been a lack of efficiency at times. That fine finesse and final touch is often missing
and it has happened far too often,” he said.
But McCarthy said he was delighted to beat Pirates for a second time in as many months after also knocking them out of the Nedbank Cup last month.
“It was a nice open game. We were chasing shadows at times but in an organised manner.
“They didn’t have a chance to break us down. When we broke away we lacked the composure upfront to score more.”
But the coach said he could fault his player for effort. City will ensure a top five finish for a second successive season with a positive result against AmaZulu in their lasty game, away in Durban on May 12.
