The Oyo State Chapter of the Sports
Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commiserated with the people of Oyo
state and Ibarapa East in particular on the death of the Association's Patron,
who was also the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Michael
Adeyemo.
The state SWAN Chairman, Niyi
Alebiosu and the state Secretary Adewale Tijani, in statement said that the SWAN
patron died on Friday morning following what is believed to be heart attack.
The Chairman and Secretary expressed
shock at the sudden death of the late politician, who died at the age of 47.
Oyo SWAN described the death of the
Speaker as a great loss not only to political family but also to the sport
fraternity in the state.
The statement reads "Today is a
sad day for us as sport Journalists in Oyo state, with the sudden death of our
patron. Late Adeyemo was very accommodating and generous.
He was a lover of sport and had
sponsored many grassroot football competitions."
The SWAN Chairman according to the
statement added with regret that the Late Oyo SWAN patron died at a time his
service was needed most.
He said "I find it difficult to
believe that our Patron is gone forever. His sun set at midday. The death of
Hon Adeyemo has created a vacuum very difficult to fill."
The Association prayed for the
repose of the soul of the departed patron, while it also prayed that God should
give the family of the deceased and the people of Ibarapa East the fortitude to
bear the great loss.
The Late Honourable Adeyemo became
the Patron of Oyo SWAN last year at an elaborate ceremony held at the Lekan Salami
stadium, Adamasingba Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
