A total of 25 participants have graduated from the Ogun state SME Business Training and Coaching Loop of the German Cooperation, Deutsche Gesellschaftfur Internationale Zusammernarbeit (GIZ).
According to a GIZ official, Omoware Akin who gave an highlight of the training at the graduation ceremony of the graduating participants held at the Youth Development Centre of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, in Abeokuta the Ogun state capital, the training programme consists of five phases of training and coaching for six months.
Omoware said that the participants were trained by four trainers and coaches, while there was also an input from the representative of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He added that the training focuses on addressing the challenges facing many businesses in Nigeria, such as inadequate business knowledge and management skills.
He listed other challenges that the training addressed as lack of guidance and practical steps that could bring about change and development, as well as insufficient access to financial resources to grow businesses.
However, the participants were trained in different areas, such as Agric product processing, poultry/cassava farming, non-agric product manufacturing, construction(fabrication) and Agric service provider.
Meanwhile, the Ogun state Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperation, Asiwaju Francis Gbenga, who was represented by Alhaji Mojeed Sorinola, a senior officer in the ministry, while declaring the graduation ceremony open said that the state government will continue to develop SMEs in the state.
He urged members of the public to key into the Federal Government's aim of diversifying the economy by tapping into the SMEs.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Trade and Investment, Oladotun Akinrulie, while giving his word of encouragement at the ceremony, urged the participants to not only develop themselves through the training they have received, but also develop the economy of the state, by bracing up in their businesses.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the representative of the Permanent Secretary of the Ogun state ministry of Commerce and Industry, Engineer Kehinde Akintonde, commended GIZ for its series of advocacy and development programmes in Ogun state.
He added that the state has a lot of programmes designed to develop SMEs in the state, as SMEs all over the world is an important aspect of economic development.
Meanwhile, there were testimonials from the graduating participants at the ceremony, with all of them saying that the training have impacted positively on them and their businesses.
Certificates were presented to the participants, while this was followed by a group photograph.
