The Assistant Commandant General(ACG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), in-charge of Zone A and F, Popoola Waheed said over 6000 arrests have been made by his zone in the last two years.
The ACG who made this known to Newsworld Premium in an exclusive interview, said that some of the arrests were cases transferred from commands under the zone.
Waheed who has his zones covering the entire South West of Nigeria, said one of the major challenges of the zone, is lack of support from the state government.
The NSCDC boss said state governments believe they do not have anything to do with the zones, believing their concerns has to do with the state commands.
He added that his stay as the Zonal Commander of the two zones, have been wonderful experience, due to the fact that he has served as state Commandant in some states, in one of the zones in the past, while he is also an indigene of one of the states in the zone.
He said, "It's been a wonderful experience for me as a Zonal Commander, it's a familiar terrain for me. I have served here and I am from here."
He urged members of the public to see security of lives and properties, as a collective responsibility.
He added, "Security job is not meant for one person, agency or security personnel, it's meant for everybody. So, people should not hide information, about armed robbery, kidnapping, herdsmen attack or any crime."
He advised operatives of NSCDC to be hardworking and diligent, noting that any operative involved in truancy of any kind will be thrown out of the Corps.
